homemade props {bay area newborn photographer}

one of the things i love about newborn photography is the excuse to start random knitting projects.  next week i am taking photos of my former roommate's new baby who's dad is a pilot.  he and my friend got engaged while flying, so i thought it was absolutely necessary to get my hands on one of those adorable aviator hats.  i could only find a pattern that was crochet rather than knit, so i dug up the one crochet hook i have and turned on you tube.  a couple hours later i had the perfect aviator hat for the perfect newborn aviator.  i then added a bear hat while i still knew how to crochet.  looking forward to trying these props out next week!

i was so excited to spend some time with this adorable little lady last weekend up in sonoma.  i was hoping to get some shots in the vineyards, but it turns out the ground isn't really made for one year old feet.  oh well!  we got some great shots anyway.  below are my favorites.

my first ad {san francisco baby photographer}

i'm starting to feel much more official after sending this advertisement out this morning for the november issue of the golden gate mothers group newsletter.  pretty excited to be doing some marketing/advertising.

thanks to the fantastic graphic designer, kyle kemp, for creating my first ad!  and to miss elia, the best 6 week old baby model ever.  seriously, what six week old baby do you know who can hold her head up like this?  she's verrry talented :)

leah & brett {bay area child photographer}

i was lucky enough to be in philadelphia for a visit with one of my best friends just in time for her son brett's 1st birthday.

we planned a one year cake smash shoot in her kitchen. i made the hat the night before at the monthly craft night i have with some friends.  i was surprisingly able to find all the fabric and tools for the hat hanging around my (studio) apartment.  no wonder we have no storage space!

big sister leah got in on the photo shoot action as well.  while mom was inside getting the birthday boy and cake ready, leah and i went outside for her shoot.  she was sooo sweet, doing every pose i was telling her to, not always knowing what to do with her hands.  so cute.

after cake, dad came home with a brand new puppy!  so we had to get some family shots in there as well.  i had such a great day hanging with one of my favorite families on a super special day - not only did brett just turn one and they got a new puppy, but brett started walking!  so exciting!

elena maternity {bay area maternity photographer}

my family and i surprised my dad last week for his 60th birthday down the new jersey shore.  he didn't know my sister and i were coming out from san francisco to spend the week with him.

an added bonus was getting to spend time with my six months pregnant sister who lives in new york.  i was so excited her belly was big enough for a photoshoot!  (and that we were both on a weird enough schedule that allowed us to shoot on the beach at sunrise)

baby sloane sneak peek {san francisco newborn photographer}

here are a couple photos from my very first official newborn shoot.  baby sloane was a wonderful model especially once we figured out how to get her in a super sleep.  we played with different blankets, hats, a wine box, her puppy-sister, killer whale, and my favorite...  beautifully re-upholstered theater seats (shown in the second photo).  i had so much fun, i really hope i am able to do a bunch more of these kinds of shoots in the near future.
